Private scans

Gender scans

Can't wait until the 20-week scan — or your hospital won't tell you? A private gender scan can confirm your baby's sex from around 16 weeks, with a wellbeing check too.

If you'd love to know whether you're expecting a boy or a girl, a private gender scan can usually confirm it from around 16 weeks — earlier than many NHS hospitals will share, and sooner than the 20-week scan.

At Window to the Womb, a gender scan also includes a wellbeing check on your baby and a glimpse in 4D, so it's reassuring as well as exciting.

🔍What it checks

  • Your baby's sex (with very high accuracy from 16 weeks)
  • Your baby's heartbeat and general wellbeing
  • Confirmation of a single or multiple pregnancy

💛What to expect

The scan is done over your tummy and takes around 15–20 minutes. Staying well hydrated in the days before can help with the view.

You'll get a report and prints to take home, and the team can share the news however you'd like — including keeping it sealed for a reveal.

💬Questions worth asking

  • How confident are you in the result today?
  • Is my baby's wellbeing looking as expected?
  • Can you keep the result sealed for a reveal?
Good to know. A private scan is for reassurance and keepsakes and doesn't replace your NHS anomaly scan, which checks your baby's development in detail.
