4D & HD baby scans

A 4D scan is the one for bonding — moving, lifelike images of your baby's face. Here's how to get the best from it and when to go.

Where standard scans are mostly about measurements, a 4D scan is about the joy of seeing your baby — yawning, stretching and pulling faces in moving, lifelike detail.

The sweet spot is usually around 26–32 weeks, when your baby has enough fat to look rounded but still has room to move. At Window to the Womb, a wellbeing check is included too.

🔍What it checks

  • Lifelike 4D/HD images of your baby
  • A wellbeing check on your baby
  • Confirmation of your baby's position

💛What to expect

Image quality depends a lot on your baby's position, the amount of fluid around them, and how the placenta is lying — so results vary, and the team may suggest a short walk or a return visit if your baby is shy.

Staying well hydrated in the days before can help. You'll take home prints and often a digital clip.

💬Questions worth asking

  • Is now a good time, or should I come slightly later?
  • What can I do to get the best image?
  • Is my baby's wellbeing looking as expected?
Good to know. A 4D scan is a keepsake experience and doesn't replace your NHS scans.
